Umbellifer

Stephen Lennon is the artist behind Umbellifer, a botanical illustration brand inspired by his lifelong love of drawing and plants. After studying at Bradford and Reading art colleges and working as a freelance illustrator, Stephen’s creative journey took a detour in running his own plant nursery. It was there, surrounded by the beauty of the plants he was growing, that he rediscovered his passion for drawing and began creating the distinctive botanical artwork that defines Umbellifer.

Working from his Northumberland garden, Stephen begins each design with a hand-drawn sketch, often drawn from life. These are then digitally refined to add colour and texture before being printed in North Yorkshire. Sustainability is a key part of Umbellifer’s ethos, with FSC-certified, carbon-offset card stock, recycled envelopes, and biodegradable packaging. Each card is blank inside but features a thoughtful quote or poem on the back, adding an extra layer of meaning to them.
