Karen Howarth Ceramics

Karen Howarth Ceramics Profile_Just Makers

Karen creates contemporary ceramics inspired by the colours, textures and patterns she finds in the natural world. She looks closely at changing landscapes, from grasses moving beneath stormy skies to the subtle shifts in colour across an open seascape and translates those observations into richly textured ceramic surfaces.

Working from her purpose-built garden studio, Karen makes one-off wall pieces, decorative tiles, bowls, vessels and jewellery. She enjoys exploring colour, texture and form, building layers of glaze and surface detail to create pieces with depth and a strong tactile quality.

Alongside her own studio practice, Karen has taught ceramics to adults, university students and children across the UK. She completed a Master's degree in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art, following earlier studies at Wrexham College of Art and Design and the University of Wolverhampton.

Karen's work celebrates the beauty of the landscape and encourages people to notice the textures, colours and patterns that surround us every day. Each piece reflects both technical skill and a genuine connection to the natural world.
