Just Makers is an independent, woman-owned gallery in the heart of Skipton that brings together the work of more than 80 independent artists from Yorkshire and beyond.
We aim to sit somewhere between a traditional gallery and a gift shop. A place with the carefully chosen collection and quality you'd expect from an art gallery, but the warmth and welcome of an independent high street shop.
Just Makers is somewhere you can browse without feeling intimidated, discover artists you've never come across before and enjoy learning the stories behind the work.
Every artist we work with has been selected for their skill and craftsmanship. We don't rent shelves or try to stock a little bit of everything. Instead, we curate a collection of original artwork and handcrafted products that reflect originality and lasting quality.
Most of the artists we represent are based in Yorkshire, alongside a small number from elsewhere in the UK whose work complements the collection. Together they work across ceramics, jewellery, printmaking, glass, textiles, wood, painting and many other disciplines, giving visitors the opportunity to discover a wide range of contemporary and traditional craft under one roof.
Alongside the gallery and online store, we run artist led workshops and events where visitors can learn directly from the people behind the work, explore new creative skills and gain a deeper understanding of the processes involved.
Overall, our ambition is simple: we want to make buying original work from independent artists feel as natural as shopping anywhere else on the high street. By bringing together gallery quality with a welcoming, approachable atmosphere, we hope more people will discover the enjoyment of owning work made by real artists and supporting independent creative businesses.
