The Proverbial Hare

Hels Forrester is the artist behind The Proverbial Hare.

Originally from Yorkshire, Hels spent many years working in fashion buying and manufacturing, a career that took her from London to the Far East before eventually bringing her back north via Cornwall. Alongside this career, drawing and painting remained a constant.

The Proverbial Hare grew from that lifelong habit of sketching. What began as small gifts for friends and family has developed into a distinctive body of work inspired by the landscapes and wildlife of Yorkshire.

Working with pen, ink, watercolour, gouache and collage, Hels creates expressive scenes that often feature hares alongside bold, abstracted views of moors and hills. Her work balances energy with humour, capturing both the drama of the landscape and the quieter details of everyday life.

Today The Proverbial Hare includes original artworks, prints, cards and a range of thoughtfully produced homewares.
