Twice Fired Glass

Twice Fired is the studio of Leeds-based glass artist Kate Park. Her work is shaped by a fascination with pattern, process and the quiet detail found in nature.
Working from her Yorkshire studio, Kate creates contemporary handmade glass art, jewellery and homeware inspired by organic forms, from delicate seedpods and beetle wings to the soft structure of birds and foliage. Light also plays an important role in every piece, with subtle tones and textures revealing themselves as the glass shifts and catches the light.
Each design begins with hand rolled kiln glass, carefully cut, layered and assembled before being fused in the kiln. Pieces are often fired more than once, allowing colour and surface effects to develop gradually through controlled heat. It’s a process that requires patience and technical skill, but also leaves room for discovery. Experimentation with the firing is where some of the most distinctive patterns emerge.
Twice Fired has already been recognised within the British glass community, with work exhibited by the Contemporary Glass Society and shown at the British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate.
A zero waste approach sits at the heart of Kate's work. Offcuts from larger sheets are saved and reworked into frit balls - small spheres of reclaimed glass that are incorporated into future pieces. Nothing is discarded; every fragment has potential.
The result is glass that feels considered and contemporary, with each piece carrying subtle differences.
