Spend a day with textile artist Katy Small learning the traditional process of wet felting and creating your own wool painting.
Katy will begin with a practical demonstration of wet felt making and introduce the different wools, plant fibres, yarns and other materials that can be incorporated into the work. You will explore blending colours, combining different fibres and adding yarns to create texture, shape and detail.
You can work from your own reference image or choose from examples provided by Katy, with individual guidance throughout the day as your picture develops.
Using soft Merino wool fibres, water, soap and agitation, you will learn how the loose fibres are gradually transformed into a finished piece of felted textile art.
The workshop is suitable for beginners and all materials and equipment are provided. Katy will also provide aprons, gloves and a bag for taking your finished artwork home.
What to bring
If you would like to create your own design, please bring a reference image to work from. Alternatively, Katy will provide examples for you to follow.

Where are Workshops Held?
Unless otherwise stated, our workshops take place in the spacious, light-filled gallery room on the first floor of Just Makers in Craven Court, Skipton.
Please note that the workshop room is accessed via one flight of stairs. Toilet facilities are available on site.
What Do I Bring?
Just bring yourselves!
All materials will be provided unless we let you know otherwise.
We’ll have refreshments ready for you on arrival. If your workshop runs all day, please note that lunch isn’t provided. You’re welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit the various tea rooms and coffee shops very close by.
If your workshop is likely to get a bit messy, we recommend wearing something you don’t mind getting creative in!
Car Parking
Car parks are available very close to Craven Court. The closest car park is High Street Car park (BD23 1ED) and we are a 5 minute walk.
Cancellation Policy
We understand that sometimes plans change, and we’ll always do our best to be fair.
Please note the following terms for workshop cancellations:
- Cancellations made one calendar month or more before the workshop: You’ll receive a full refund.
- Between one month and 14 days before the workshop: We’ll issue a credit note for the full amount which you can use towards a future workshop.
- Cancellations less than 14 days in advance: We’ll do our best to fill your spot. If we’re able to, we’ll offer a transfer or credit note towards another workshop. If not, we’re sorry but we can’t offer a refund.
Gift vouchers
If you booked using a gift voucher, please note that we’re unable to offer cash refunds. However we’ll follow the same cancellation terms and issue a credit note where applicable.
If we cancel
If we ever need to cancel a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances, we’ll give you as much notice as possible and offer a full refund. Sadly we can’t accept responsibility for travel or other costs you may have incurred.
