If it’s been a while since you last did a class, or you’ve never been on a workshop before, it’s completely normal to feel a bit unsure. Most people arrive wondering whether they’ll be any good, if they’ll be able to keep up or whether it’s really “for them”.
If that's you, here's what our workshops are really like:
Small groups, properly run
All Just Makers workshops are small. Most have a maximum of six people, a few run to eight, and never more than that. It means there’s time for questions, space to work and proper attention from the tutor, without anyone feeling rushed or put on the spot.
You’ll also get to know the rest of the group, which makes for a relaxed, friendly atmosphere from the start.
Learning directly from the artist
Our workshops are taught by people who actually make the work you’re learning. Not facilitators and not hobbyists.
Every tutor is a professional in their craft, and many also have formal teaching experience. They know their materials, their tools and how to explain things clearly, whether you’re picking something up for the first time or building on skills you already have.
Good materials without cutting corners
For most workshops, all tools and materials are provided, and this is reflected in the workshop price. Where you need to bring something with you, it’s made clear in advance.
When materials are supplied, they’re the same quality the maker uses themselves. Your overall experience and the finished piece will be all the better for it.
Who our workshops are for
All workshops are suitable for beginners. Many also work well for people with some experience.
Tutors will quickly get a feel for the group and adjust their teaching accordingly. Our small group sizes make this possible. The pace isn’t rushed, and there’s room for people to work at different levels within the same session.
What you will go home with
You’ll leave the workshop with something you’ve made yourself, whether that’s a mosaic, a print, a cushion cover or a willow sculpture.
Just as importantly, you’ll leave with new skills and the confidence to use them again. Many people go on to experiment at home, or book another workshop once they realise they can do more than they thought.
Our workshops attract a wide mix of people, which is part of what makes them enjoyable. Alongside learning something new, you’ll likely spend a few hours in good company too.
