Spend a full day exploring landscape painting in a relaxed setting with local artist Jeanne Mundy. This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those looking to loosen up their approach and move away from realism.

Rather than focusing on precise detail, the day will explore abstraction and impressionism, helping participants to see landscapes in a more expressive and creative way.

Morning session
The day begins with sketching and observation. If the weather allows, the group will head out into the village with sketchbooks to take inspiration from the surrounding views.

The focus will be on composition and what makes a landscape visually interesting. You will explore how selecting and abstracting sections of a scene can open up new and unexpected possibilities.

Afternoon session
In the afternoon, you will develop your ideas into a finished acrylic painting, guided by Jeanne.

There will be demonstrations throughout the day, showcasing a range of techniques and tools, including brushes, palette knives and even everyday items such as old credit cards, highlighting the versatility of acrylic paint.

What to bring
Some materials will be available on the day, but you are asked to bring:

  • Apron or overall

  • Rags or kitchen roll

  • Paper, board or canvas

  • Sketchbook

  • Tear-off paper palette or large plastic plate

  • Brushes (larger brushes encouraged), palette knives and old credit cards

  • Acrylic paints

  • Charcoal, pencils and eraser

  • Masking tape

  • Water pot

Jeanne will also provide additional materials for demonstration, along with some prepared surfaces to work on.

Small group. Led by the artist. Beginners welcome.

Where are Workshops Held?

Unless otherwise stated, our workshops take place in the spacious, light-filled room above our shop in the Clock Tower at Ripley. It’s a lovely space that’s perfect for getting creative.

Please note that the workshop room is accessed via one flight of stairs. Toilet facilities are available on site.

What Do I Bring?

Just bring yourselves!
All materials will be provided unless we let you know otherwise.

We’ll have refreshments ready for you on arrival. If your workshop runs all day, please note that lunch isn’t provided. You’re welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit the tearoom or coffee shop in Ripley Castle Courtyard.

If your workshop is likely to get a bit messy, we recommend wearing something you don’t mind getting creative in!

Car Parking

You’re welcome to park in the car park next to Ripley Castle Courtyard — it’s just a short walk from our shop.

Parking is free for workshop attendees, but please let us know your car registration number when you arrive so we can make sure you’re covered for the day.

Cancellation Policy

We understand that sometimes plans change, and we’ll always do our best to be fair.

Please note the following terms for workshop cancellations:

  • Cancellations made one calendar month or more before the workshop: You’ll receive a full refund.
  • Between one month and 14 days before the workshop: We’ll issue a credit note for the full amount which you can use towards a future workshop.
  • Cancellations less than 14 days in advance: We’ll do our best to fill your spot. If we’re able to, we’ll offer a transfer or credit note towards another workshop. If not, we’re sorry but we can’t offer a refund.

Gift vouchers
If you booked using a gift voucher, please note that we’re unable to offer cash refunds. However we’ll follow the same cancellation terms and issue a credit note where applicable.

If we cancel
If we ever need to cancel a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances, we’ll give you as much notice as possible and offer a full refund. Sadly we can’t accept responsibility for travel or other costs you may have incurred.
