Botanical Bas Relief Plaque Workshop with Tara Joy

    10:30am – 3:30pm

Join Tara Joy for a wonderfully creative and hands-on workshop exploring the art of botanical bas relief. This experimental course guides participants through each stage of making their own beautiful flower and nature plaster cast relief plaques.

During the workshop, participants will learn how to roll out clay, design and arrange flowers, and create unique compositions ready for casting. Fresh flowers and foliage are pressed into wet clay before plaster is poured and left to set, capturing every delicate detail. Once the mould is removed, the plaques can be carefully finished and either painted or left natural.

Each person will create two plaques (approx. 7.5 x 5.5 inches) — one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Hanging hooks can be added, or the plaques can be left plain to create elegant botanical pieces for the home.

A selection of flowers and foliage will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring a small bunch of fresh flowers, herbs, leaves or wild grasses from their own garden to make the artwork even more personal.

Please bring an apron and wear clothes suitable for a creative (and slightly messy!) day. Glasses wearers may wish to bring them along for the detailed stages.

All materials are included, apart from the small bunch of fresh seasonal foliage you’re asked to bring.

Small group. Led by the artist. Beginners welcome.

    Where are Workshops Held?

Unless otherwise stated, our workshops take place in the spacious, light-filled room above our shop in the Clock Tower at Ripley. It’s a lovely space that’s perfect for getting creative.

Please note that the workshop room is accessed via one flight of stairs. Toilet facilities are available on site.

    What Do I Bring?

    Just bring yourselves!
All materials will be provided unless we let you know otherwise.

We’ll have refreshments ready for you on arrival. If your workshop runs all day, please note that lunch isn’t provided. You’re welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit the tearoom or coffee shop in Ripley Castle Courtyard.

If your workshop is likely to get a bit messy, we recommend wearing something you don’t mind getting creative in!

    Car Parking

You’re welcome to park in the car park next to Ripley Castle Courtyard — it’s just a short walk from our shop.

Parking is free for workshop attendees, but please let us know your car registration number when you arrive so we can make sure you’re covered for the day.

    Cancellation Policy

We understand that sometimes plans change, and we’ll always do our best to be fair.

Please note the following terms for workshop cancellations:

    • Cancellations made one calendar month or more before the workshop: You’ll receive a full refund.
    • Between one month and 14 days before the workshop: We’ll issue a credit note for the full amount which you can use towards a future workshop.
    • Cancellations less than 14 days in advance: We’ll do our best to fill your spot. If we’re able to, we’ll offer a transfer or credit note towards another workshop. If not, we’re sorry but we can’t offer a refund.

    Gift vouchers
If you booked using a gift voucher, please note that we’re unable to offer cash refunds. However we’ll follow the same cancellation terms and issue a credit note where applicable.

    If we cancel
If we ever need to cancel a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances, we’ll give you as much notice as possible and offer a full refund. Sadly we can’t accept responsibility for travel or other costs you may have incurred.
