Rachel Knowles

Rachel Knowles is a printmaker and artist based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Her work is deeply inspired by nature, particularly the intricate lines and patterns found in plants and landscapes.

Specialising in linocut printmaking, Rachel meticulously plans each piece through detailed drawings, often creating multiple studies of the same subject to refine her designs. These drawings are then transferred onto lino blocks, which she carefully carves and prints by hand, employing both traditional and reduction techniques to achieve depth and texture.

Her current body of work explores themes of plant life, place, and memory, translating the essence of the natural world into striking monochrome and colour prints. Each piece is a testament to her patience, as the printing process involves the application of colour using a roller, placing paper over the inked block, and applying pressure to transfer the image. The results though speak for themselves as her work is stunning.
